Save Audioscope on RTE
Labour councillor, Keith Martin from Westport Town Council is asking the people of Mayo to support a campaign to prevent RTE from removing the radio programme “Audioscope” from its schedule. Audioscope is the only nationwide radio programme in Ireland that addresses issues faced by blind and vision impaired people.
Cllr Martin says “There are no questions being raised about its popularity or quality. It seems that RTE simply want to reshuffle their radio schedule with Audioscope losing out to other more mainstream programmes. It has been estimated that Audioscope has a regular listenership of 60,000 people. It is a terrible shame when people with disabilities are still fighting for their rights that RTE has decided to remove this type of programme.”
Cllr Martins adds “I would ask the people of the Mayo and the west of Ireland to add their voice to the campaign to save this vital programme by calling RTE on 01 208 3111, by signing the on-line petition at www.saveaudioscope.com or by writing to RTE at Donnybrook, Dublin 4.”
