Better Road needed
Independent Westport Town Councillor, Cllr Keith Martin has written to Mayo County Council roads Dept to request the upgrading of the surface of the Golf Course Road.
Cllr Martin says that the quality of the road surface on the stretch of the road from the new Water Treatment plant to the Rugby and Golf Course Clubs is in a “disgraceful state”.
Cllr Martin adds “Last week I attended the opening of the Golf Club’s new academy and Driving range and I was shocked by the state of the road on that particular stretch. We have two state of the art leisure facilities in Westport Golf Club and the Rugby Club but the road there is terrible. Not only is it dotted with pot-holes but it the road is not marked properly either.
Cllr Martin also adds “It is a shame on us to have visitors from all around the world traveling to these clubs down such a road. What it must be like for locals using it every day is worse. These clubs and the Carrowholly area are thriving now and they deserve a road surface fit to drive on. I have written to the County Council requesting that the problems be addressed immediately. I know the road budget is not what it should be but a busy road like Carrowholly road should be better maintained than at present.”
