Dumping condemned
Westport Town Councillor Keith Martin has expressed his disgust at the revelation that soil, pipes, wood planks, pallets and other building rubbish has been dumped at the edge of Council owned landed in Cloomonad. Cllr Martin says he was dismayed to see planks of wood, bits of metal piping, soil, plastic and other rubbish dumped within clear sight of the Railway line walk.
Cllr Martin has brought the illegal dumping to the attention of Mr Peter Hynes, Town Manager, who has agreed to launch an investigation into the dumping. Cllr Martin is appealing to anyone who has seen the culprits in action to contact the town council 098 50400 and tell council officials what they know about the dumping.
Cllr Martin says “dumping waste of any kind is unacceptable, to dump it in the vicinity of the wetlands and the Railway line walk is even more despicable. Fortunately there are now very strict laws regarding this kind of dumping and I expect that once the culprit is identified after the council’s investigation they will be dealt with accordingly. My fear is that it will be left to the council to clean up after this criminal act unless the culprit is identified or comes forward themselves and undertakes the clean up the waste immediately.”
Cllr Martin concludes “This kind of behaviour is never acceptable. Westport is a beautiful and tidy town and this kind of behaviour should be stamped on and stamped on hard!”
