Film in Mayo
The children's adventure mystery film "Secret of the Cave" is to be filmed on Achill island, Co. Mayo this summer. Actor Patrick Bergin has already signed up to feature in the feature length film and the film is being assisted by Mayo County Council, Achill residents and local businesses.
Mayo's local government, citizens and businesses are eager to promote County Mayo as a location for both national and international film makers.
Mayo's famous scenery and locations have already featured in massive hits like John Ford's 'The Quiet Man' staring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara and in John B Keane's 'The Field' staring Richard Harris.
Mayo has also successfully collaborated with documentary and television series makers such as

Channel 4
and been the location for advertisements for international companies such as 'Guinness' who recently shot their latest advert in Westport.
Based on the on-going success in attracting film-makers to Mayo a Film Board is being established to promote County Mayo at home and abroad the ideal location for filming.

The extension of section 481 tax benefits for film makers there are great tax breaks for filming in Mayo.
There is an excellent funding available through the Regional Support Fund which aims to encourage Irish filmmakers to shoot features and large drama productions in all parts of the country. This fund is designed to work by offsetting a proportion of additional production costs incurred by shooting in regional areas of Ireland. Loans to a maximum of €125,000 are available from this fund.
Film makers from outside the EU can avail of VAT tax back on many items.
