Statement on the development of community facilities on the Golf Course Road
The Golf course road will soon be the envy of Westport according to Westport Town Councillor Keith Martin. Cllr Martin was speaking in the run up to opening of the area’s community building next month.
Cllr Martin says that the appearance of the area has been greatly improved in recent months due to the efforts of the Tidy Town’s workers and Westport Town Council. The area’s park has been seeded and is going to be a terrific asset to the area.
Cllr Martin says "It will mean that the children from the neighbouring estates will have an area to play football and other games on away from houses and cars of residents.
I would hope that we could have a small play area, a series of paths and a green area put in place next year.
The area’s community building will also be a great asset to the area as it will provide not just an building for the use of the residents but a playschool and homework club for the children of the Golf Course Road. The area also has a specially assigned development officer, Rita McNally who will co-ordinate the areas residents and facilitate their use of the building.
When the promised speed controls and crossing points are in place the area will be the envy of the town and should serve as a blueprint for area development in the future. Hopefully within a matter of years we will see the same facilities for other areas of town, especially for the Quay."
