Inventory of Heritage Objects within Westport Town Council Boundary
Objective:
To definitively list the heritage objects in Westport Town. Heritage objects are objects over 25 years old which are important pieces of the town's history, heritage and street scape. This also includes works of art or of industry (including books, documents and other records, including genealogical records) of cultural importance. This would give the Town Council a complete list of such protected items throughout the town and would be an aid to the planning process.
Process:
Westport Town Council would provide €5,000 for the inventory and then submit an application for a grant to the Heritage Council which would match the amount. With the €10,000 available Westport Town Council can tender the process to a heritage specialist or carry out the inventory itself.
Timescale:
January 2006 Westport Town Council puts aside €5,000 for the inventory.
November 2006 Westport Town Council submits a grant application to the Heritage Council for matching funds.
February 2007 Grant approved by Heritage Council.
March 2007 Westport Town Council implements the Inventory of Heritage Objects.
