Quay Signage to be upgraded
Cllr Keith Martin says Westport Town Council will upgrade the signage for the Quay area on the West Road. The Labour councillor says he had asked Westport Town Council officials to examine the situation earlier in the year in response to complaints from Quay businesses about the need for upgrading the signage area within the town and on the West Road.
According to Cllr Martin “Westport Town Council have agreed to upgrade the signage and to list the types of businesses and amenities available at the Quay.”
Cllr Martin says currently not enough of an effort being made in highlighting the Quay area and facilities, both in the town and on the West Road.
“Westport Quay is almost left to its own devices by the council in this area. While we should be encouraging businesses to remove unsightly signage from the approach roads we, as a council, need to make sure that there is appropriate and tasteful signage and directions to the Quay listing the area’s facilities and amenities.
Entrepreneurs have taken a chance and invested in the Quay and its future and brought the area back to life, provided entertainment, shopping and employment in the area.
We are still being asked in the town centre “where is the Quay?” and this is because the signage provided by the council is not prominent enough. I am delighted at the council’s decision to replace the existing signage on the West Road. This is a good start but we must examine possible improvements that can be made to the signage in the town now.”
