100 houses welcomed for Westport
Cllr Keith Martin has warmly welcomed publication of Westport Town Council's intention to build 56 apartments, 53 town houses and 6 commercial/retail units on a site on Tubberhill.
Cllr Martin who is also chairman of the residents association of Westport's affordable housing development, Pairc Na Coille on the Golf Course Road, says that "the development will go a long way to meeting the social and affordable housing needs of the young people of this town. The plans will be on display in Westport Civic Offices on Altamont Street from 9am to 5pm until August 5 and I urge those interested to ensure they view them. This is going to be the largest council project ever and the standard and level of the development is very impressive."
"I have already seen these plans and I am impressed with the level of work and thought that has gone into the project which will be a mix of social and affordable housing. There is also the possibility of the provision for a shop and creche with the inclusion of the commerical and retail units."
"Submissions or observations with regard to the proposed development dealing with proper planning and development of the area may be made in writing to the Town Clerk before August 19 and a public information session in relation to the above will be held in the Civic Offices on Wednesday July 20 from 4pm to 7pm. I would urge the residents of the area and those interested in social or affordable housing to attend the information session where all the questions and concerns will be addressed. The project is further proof of this council's commitment to meeting our town's housing needs and I commend the work of the housing service in this regard."
"Projects like this mean that the days of people having to leave Westport to buy a home are coming to an end and that is good news for the young of our town."
